Women’s Pelvic Health Physiotherapy

Regain confidence and comfort with specialist Pelvic Health Physiotherapy designed to support, empower and understand women at every stage of life.

What is Pelvic Health Physiotherapy?

Pelvic Health Physiotherapy is a specialised branch of physiotherapy that addresses issues related to the pelvis and abdominal area. It focuses on how the pelvic floor muscles, joints and connective tissues function, and how they may contribute to symptoms such as bladder or bowel changes, pelvic pain, prolapse, or discomfort during pregnancy and after childbirth. Through thorough assessment, education and tailored treatment, Pelvic Health Physiotherapy aims to restore strength, movement and confidence — helping women improve their daily comfort and overall quality of life.

What does a Pelvic Health Physio appointment involve?

We use a comprehensive, evidence-based approach:

  • Initial assessment (approx. 60 mins): The initial appointment will involve an in depth conversation to fully understand your history and symptoms. Followed by a thorough assessment of muscle strength, coordination, posture, movement, and pelvic floor function.
  • Diagnosis & discussion: Your physio will discuss the findings from your assessment, and offer a tailored physiotherapy programme that best suits you.
  • Treatment & training: Treatment may incorporate many different elements depending on your symptoms and your preference. This may include pelvic floor muscle training, strength exercises, breathing exercises, acupuncture, manual therapy, movement advice and home-exercise prescription.
  • Follow-up & progression: A follow up appointment will monitor your improvement, adjust your treatment accordingly as you improve, and support you in integrating these changes into your daily life

Only if you and your physiotherapist agree will it help the outcome of your assessment and treatment.

How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your symptoms, goals and treatment consistency. Many women see meaningful change in 4-12 sessions, but progress is always assessed on an individual basis.

Is it just for pregnant/post-partum women?
No — Pelvic Health Physiotherapy can be beneficial at any stage of life — for those who’ve never been pregnant, mid-life, athletes or mature women. Symptoms may be new, or you may seek help for symptoms that have bothered you for a long time.

Can I exercise normally?
Exercise is important for us all. Your physio will guide you on when and how to return to exercise (including running, lifting, sports).

How much does Pelvic Health Physiotherapy cost?
Our 60-minute initial assessment is £90, and 30-minute follow-up sessions are £60. Your physiotherapist will discuss how many sessions may be helpful based on your symptoms and goals.
